When I was in Kindergarten one of the activities I absolutely loved was painting, I would bubble over with excitement as my teachers brought out the paintbrushes, smocks and watercolors. As they placed the materials on the tables for us to create our imaginations would bloom and come to life… dream worlds of chocolate candy clouds and butterfly fairies came to life on a canvas. Perhaps the best part for us 5 and 6 year olds was taking our artwork home to share our creations with our parents. I miss the good ole days….today it seems like the arts and creativity have taken a backseat to video games and technology. Coopers Color to Canvas is excited about bringing arts and creativity back to life for young people. Our children’s workshops and classes create a sense of awe and wonderment for young emerging artist. Take a look at a few of the benefits that painting offers for children and join us for fun children’s workshop at the studio. We look forward to seeing you!
How Painting Benefits Children:
Language Development-Talking the Talk
When children create art they are naturally inclined to talk about their work and share. This art chatter provides an opportunity for young people to engage in conversation with parents and peers about their work and use descriptive words to describe it. As children discuss and describe the details of their creations conversations come to life and expand existing ideas that in turn increases children’s depth of knowledge and insights on various subject matters.
Unleash Genius Potential
It really is true kids that participate in the arts are real smarty pants! According to the Americans for the Arts website children that participate in art activities on a regular basis experience more positive academic achievement than children who do not.
Who would have thought that by deciding on the perfect color for the butterfly fairy and by figuring out where to put the gum drop tree that you are fostering decision making for later in life? Well its true according to a report by Americans for the Arts, art education strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. All of the choices that we have to make as artist carry over into other phases of our life and set a positive foundation for later decision making.
